Designer’s Challenge is back . . . Heritage style!
Have you been wanting to capture some stories from the past? Not sure where to start? Overwhelmed at the thought? Let us help you get a jump start on preserving the past and let’s have some fun while doing it! To give you an idea of what we’ll be covering, here are a few hints: homes, fads, sports, love, recipes, heirlooms, school, siblings, holidays . . . just to name a few!
Here are the juicy details:
Every Tuesday for the next 12 weeks, come in and pick up your kit from the store (Kit prices will range from $2-6 each week). In each kit we will have an item(s) that you will be challenged to use along with a topic and questions to get you going. You can use any supplies that you wish, but you must use the one product we give you to earn a point. You can make any size layout you wish. The following Tuesday, bring in your layout for us to ooh and ahh over and we will give you a point. This is not an artistic contest, but a “get-it-done” challenge. Pages are due the following Tuesday by 9pm. If you complete all 12 weeks, we will have a scrap-off party at the end and you will all receive a fabulous prize!
Each week I will be doing this challenge right along side you. This week the topic is heirlooms. When my grandma died last year at age 92, she made sure that I was given her most treasured possession—her porcelain doll from 1926. I was so excited to document this story.
If you have a special heirloom that you would like to photograph, these overcast days we’ve been having are perfect for taking photos. Here are a few tips. Take your picture outside with natural light—no flash. If the object is small enough, use a sheet as a backdrop so that you can focus on the heirloom. I simply draped a sheet over a chair in my backyard. Take the photo at different angles so that you have several options to choose from when you upload them. If you don’t have the heirloom you want to document in your possession, simply journal about it and/or find a photo online that represents what you are documenting.
A heritage page can take on any look you desire. I usually scrapbook 12x12 pages, but for this album, I am doing 8 ½ x11. I am keeping my pages fairly simple and classic. I want the stories to be the focus of my pages. I am loving the process of unearthing these stories! I hope you will join me! Be sure and give us a call if you have any questions.
